That is exactly what happened during a brazen bank holiday heist at a Cheshire distribution depot where thieves made off with more than 70,000 pints of Guinness.
Police in Runcorn are currently hunting down the culprits behind a logistical theft that reads more like a crime thriller than local news. About 800 barrels of Ireland's most famous export were targeted at the Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Aston Lane. The facility, operated by drinks giant Diageo, serves as a vital packaging and distribution hub.
The Anatomy of a Precision Heist
This wasn't a smash-and-grab by kids with a crowbar. It took planning, exact timing, and heavy goods vehicles.
The operation unfolded in two distinct phases on a Monday evening. At roughly 7:45 PM, the first lorry pulled into the Aston Lane site. The driver backed right up, hitched a pre-loaded HGV trailer containing hundreds of barrels of stout, and cleared the gates by 7:55 PM, heading toward the Mersey Gateway bridge.
Less than an hour and a half later, lightning struck twice. A second heavy truck arrived at 9:12 PM. This driver repeated the exact same maneuver, hooking up a second trailer filled with Guinness before driving off toward Rainhill and Watkinson Way at 9:30 PM.
Detectives estimate the sheer value of the stout alone sits around £115,000. When you factor in the actual value of the stolen GXO logistics trailers themselves, the total hit climbs to roughly £205,000.
What the Police Are Looking For
Cheshire Constabulary has launched a full-scale investigation to track down the haul before it gets tapped across the underground pub circuit. Investigators have released specific descriptions of the suspects and the missing equipment in hopes that dashcam footage or sharp-eyed witnesses will crack the case.
The stolen vehicles are white tri-axle curtain side trailers bearing GXO logistics branding on the curtains and rear doors. If you are checking the back of trailers on the motorway, look for the unique ID numbers DL736 and DL542 stamped on the top left corner of the rear doors.
As for the men behind the wheel, the first driver is described as white, wearing a beanie hat, and sporting a short dark beard. The second driver was spotted wearing a cap.
Local officers couldn't resist a bit of gallows humor regarding the incident, noting publicly that the famous marketing slogan only holds true when the drinks are legitimately purchased. Moving 800 metal barrels isn't something you can easily hide in a garage. Moving that volume of commercial alcohol requires a buyer network ready to fence stolen goods to unsuspecting or entirely complicit venues.
